John Morken Obituary

John Thomas Morken died peacefully at his home with his loving wife and beloved animals by his side after a long illness. He is the son of Donald and Roberta Morken. He leaves behind his wife Patricia Morken of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; his daughter, Amy Morken Flynn and her husband Colin Flynn and grandson Rowan Flynn as well as his son, Andrew Morken.

John had a long career in International banking and lived all over the world. He received his Bachelor's degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and went on to receive his Master's degree at Johns Hopkins University. Later in life John, had his own business which he thoroughly enjoyed.  Upon retirement, John relocated to Murrells Inlet for his love of golf. He went on and founded and developed The Arts Grand Strand nonprofit website. His work involved promoting all cultural arts and is very well known and, it is appreciated among the local artists along the Strand. He worked tirelessly to build the website in order to promote all cultural arts, artists, musicians and theater professionals to assist them with gaining as much exposure as possible. John’s legacy will continue as Bill Miller will be assuming the position of administrator of the website. John had numerous interests which included his love of playing classical music. John and Patti enjoyed traveling and golfing together with their former collie dogs Augustus, George and currently Oliver. John will be deeply missed by his family and remembered for his unique, humble and gracious, personality. 

A memorial service is planned for March 2021. Those details will be announced when finalized.
