John Marzano Obituary

John Anthony Marzano, 85, passed away peacefully with his loving daughter by his side on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on May 30, 1937 in Waterbury, Connecticut to the late John Marzano & Nellie Autore Marzano.

Along with his parents, John is reunited in passing with his beloved wife, Lillian “Lily” Marzano.

John proudly served our country in the United States Navy Reserves as a SeaBee - the United States Naval Construction Battalions. Following his honorable discharge, John went on to become a freight truck driver at Hubbard Hall Chemical, Farrah Transportation, and Lyons Transportation. He was a proud member and steward for Teamsters Local 677 for over 30 years. He found joy in his next job as a coach bus driver, driving students to field trips and retirees to the casinos in New England.

Upon John’s well-deserved retirement and he and Lily’s relocation to Murrells Inlet, they were able to enjoy the finer things in life, making new friends, traveling the world, and becoming pet parents to their beloved Shih Tzu, Bella. He missed being in the driver seat and went back to work part time for a few years as a dump truck driver for a local excavating company until he was 72. In his free time, he enjoyed driving the delivery van for the local Meals on Wheels organization and serving on the Architectural Review Board for his community’s homeowners’ association. He was a member of the local Elks Club and VFW Post. He was a lifelong New York Giants and Yankees fan and loved watching NASCAR. John relished time spent dining out or at the homes of his neighbors and friends. He would do anything for anyone, and his giving nature will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his adoring daughter, Monica McKenzie and husband, Stephen of Lebanon, PA; grandsons, Kaleb Koons and wife, Gina, & Kyler Koons; great-grandsons, Vincent & Tanner Koons; brother, Peter J. Marzano and wife Betty; sister, Mary Ellen Malenda and husband Wayne; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
