John J. Johnson

John J. Johnson, 83 of Murrells Inlet, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

John was born in 1937 to the late Phillip Charles Johnson and Christine Cleggett.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He loved this country deeply.

John grew up in a large, loving family of seven siblings. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother Phillip Johnson and five sisters, Barbara DelGallo, Pauline Baldy, Shirley Berg, Elaine Brown and Charlotte Wade. He has one surviving brother, Edward Johnson of TX.

John left behind his own family that will never be the same, including his wife of 65 years, whom he loved dearly, Dolores M. Johnson of Murrells Inlet; one son, John (Melissa Merry) Johnson of New Milford, CT; one daughter, Lynn (Allen) Holcomb; five grandchildren, Sean Johnson, Shala Johnson, Nick Johnson, Sergey Holcomb, Anna Holcomb; six great grandchildren, Hailey Johnson, Carter Johnson, Ileana Robles, Caleb Johnson and Brian Johnson.

Anyone who knew John would say he was a kind, caring man who worked hard every day of his life. He never once stopped doing for others. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed sitting on the beach with Dolores, playing cards with the guys or doing puzzles late into the night. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. John deeply loved his family. There was no better husband, father, grandfather, or great-grandfather. We love you and will miss you so very much.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
