John Howland Reed
August 17, 1939 – April 11, 2026
John Howland Reed, age 86, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, formerly of Malvern, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 11, 2026.
Born on August 17, 1939, in New York City, John was the son of the late Mary Wilder Howland Reed and William Creighton Reed. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Schmidlin Reed; his daughter, Jennifer Reed Sheridan; his son in-law Eric Wise; his in-laws, Art Schmidlin and Marjorie Schmidlin; and his sister, Mary Reed Shaw.
He lived a full and active life centered around his family, hobbies, and professional interests.
John was an avid golfer and coin collector who also had a strong interest in the world of finance. After retirement, he enjoyed caretaking for local rental homes, spending time visiting with family, and traveling with his beloved wife, Patricia. He was proud to hold the designation of PGA Pro, reflecting his dedication to the game of golf and the community around it.
John is survived by his daughter, Susan Reed Wise of Newark, Delaware; his son, John Howland Reed, Jr. (Laura) of Malvern, Pennsylvania; his brothers, Robert Reed (Carol) and Creighton Reed (Heather); Richard Sheridan of Davidsonville, Maryland; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and his sister-in-law, Polly Cross, along with several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held by the family.
