John Timothy Dean

John Timothy Dean passed away peacefully in his Murrells Inlet, SC home with his family by his side on September 19, 2022.

John leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Joan Dean of Murrells Inlet, SC and their seven children and respective families; Son – Timothy Dean of Houston, TX – Daughter-in-law Shirley Dean and grandchildren Jacob Dean, Juliana Dean, and Joshua Dean; Daughter – Mary Dean of Murrells Inlet, SC; Son – Patrick Dean of Cherryville, NC – Daughter-in-law Kathy Dean and granddaughter Katy Ray (spouse Patrick Ray), great grandson Brody Ray, and grandson Matthew Patrick Dean; Daughter – Sara McKee of Summerville, SC – Son-in-law Bryant McKee and grandchildren Hannah McKee and Nathan McKee; Son – Matthew Dean of Orlando, FL – Daughter-in-law Carol Dean and grandchildren Grace Dean, Samuel Dean, Thomas Dean, Charles Dean and Ann Dean; Son – Joseph Dean of Houston, TX – Daughter-in-law Sara Dean and grandchildren Allison Dean and Emily Dean; Son – David Dean of Summerville, SC – Daughter-in-law Sarah Dean and grandchildren Toby Dean and Edith Dean

John is preceded in death by his parents, Mary, and Dr. Owen Dean; sister Mary Vogel; brother-in-law John Vogel; and brother Michael Dean.

John was born in St. Louis, MO on May 7, 1943. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, MO with a bachelor’s in art education.  He then continued his education with a master’s degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS (art education with an emphasis in ceramics).  He raised his family on a farm in rural Kansas.

John worked as a teacher, salesman, and held multiple positions at a local distribution center. He was a renaissance man as he learned how to be a farmer as well as constructed his family home.  He enjoyed woodworking, wood carving, going to the beach, throwing ceramic pots, and being with his family.  He loved his family, dedicating his life to their happiness and success.

Services will be held on October 8th @ 10:00am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet, SC.  The memorial mass will be live streamed and can be viewed 10 mins prior to the start of the service by visiting www.saintmichaelsc.net
