Joan W. Turbeville

Joan W. Turbeville, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 17, 2021 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was born on September 16, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington to the late John Laverne Wadhams & Lucille Mae Clifton Wadhams.

Along with her parents, Joan is reunited in passing with her son, Mark Raymond Abbott.

Joan was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold. She was a skilled office assistant for several legal firms over the years. Following her well-deserved retirement, Joan was able to enjoy her time at home. She loved time spent with her family and making memories with friends. Joan’s selfless demeanor made it so she never met a stranger. She would gladly offer the shirt from her back to anyone in need. Above all else, Joan loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her quick wit, her kindness to all and love for her family.

Left to cherish Joan’ memory are her husband of 23 years, Mr. Robert L. Turbeville of Murrells Inlet; daughter, Linda Nelson and her husband, Joe of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Caroline & Mark Nelson; brother, Roger Svensson and his wife, Maggie; sister, Connie Bowman and her husband, Ed; as well as several nieces and nephews; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 6:30PM on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will gather at 6:00PM until the time of service.

Joan’s family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, CNA’s and resident doctors at Grand Strand Medical Center on 2 East. Thank you for your care, compassion and kindness shown to them and Joan during her stay. May God bless all of you.
