Joan Cookson Obituary

Joan Beverly Cookson, 85, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday July 10, 2019 at her home in Garden City, South Carolina. Joan was born on June 27, 1934 in Brookline, Massachusetts to the late George Stanley Lutz & Ann Frances (Sacco) Lutz.

Joan was a faithful woman with the voice of an angel. She was proud to be a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Malden, Massachusetts. A woman with a heart of gold and a knack for comfort care, Joan was a proud Licensed Practical Nurse for many years in the Boston area. Upon their relocation to Garden City, Joan and her husband were active members of St. Michael Catholic Church. In her free time, Joan loved to sing in the choir and experience the beautiful sounds of the symphonies. Above all else, Joan loved her family with her whole heart and will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish Joan’s memory are her beloved husband of 51 wonderful years, Mr. Norman H. Cookson of Garden, City; their children, Mark Cookson (wife, Elizabeth)  on Manchester, NH & Marlene Cookson Wallace (husband, Jay) of Brooklyn, NY; grandsons, Chase & Cole Wallace; as well as a large loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors, both local and in Massachusetts.

A Celebration of Joan’s life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 315 Main St. Malden, MA 02148. Those details will be announced when finalized.

At the request of the family, please consider memorial donations in Joan’s name to St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, c/o St. Michael Church, 542 Cypress Ave. Garden City, SC 29576 of to the American Cancer Society at, cancer.org
