Jerry Shireman, 73, passed away on March 26, 2021.
He was born in LaPorte, Indiana, to the late Harland and Helen Shireman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Amy Shireman Stegall that he loved and missed dearly.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Carrie and her husband Tom Gwyer of Myrtle Beach and beloved Granddaughters Erin and Casey Gwyer; siblings Elizabeth (Dan) Nolan of Greenwood, IN, Robert (Rita) Shireman of Knox, IN, and Kellye (Jeff) Coldiron of Brownsburg, IN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is a graduate of Indiana State University and worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, IN, and Petersburg, VA. He retired as a guidance counselor after 24 years of service.
After retirement he moved to Myrtle Beach to be closer to his daughter and granddaughters. He then worked for Stone Theater and enjoyed his new coworkers and especially the summertime kids movies. Jerry had dedicated neighbors and friends who helped him immensely over the years.
Jerry was an avid Notre Dame football fan, loved coaching his daughters’ softball and basketball teams, and enjoyed gardening and fishing. He had a sharp sense of humor that endured until the very end. He was loved and will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
The family will receive friends following the service until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s honor to soscaresc.org. Any donation in his name will be put towards Oak Tree Farm in Conway, SC, that is a housing community from SOS Care geared at affordable housing for individuals with autism or intellectual disabilities.
