Jay Francis Garrabrant, age 78, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, died on July 10, 2021, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He was born in Milford, Connecticut, on December 2, 1942, the son of Russell and Grace (Worden) Garrabrant. He graduated in 1960 from Milford High School, Milford, Connecticut.
He married Cheryl L. Bayard in 1962 and they settled in Milford and had three children. Cheryl passed away in May 2014.
Jay was employed by Cochrance Chevrolet Company in Bridgeport, CT, from 1960 to 1963. In 1963 he went to work for the U. S. Postal Service in Milford. In 1978 he transferred to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he retired in 1999 as a Supervisor of Customer Service. After his retirement, he moved to Chuckey, Tennessee and worked in the Maintenance Department at the Federal Court House from 2001 to 2013 in Greeneville, Tennessee.
He leaves his three children, Timothy Garrabrant of Greeneville, TN, David Garrabrant of Chuckey, TN, and Michele Westling of Greeneville, TN; grandchildren Ryan Garrabrant of Daytona Beach, FL, Kyle Garrabrant of Daytona Beach, FL, Devin Garrabrant and his wife Paige of Greeneville, TN, Kayla Westling of Johnson City, TN, and Kurt Westling Jr. of Greeneville, TN; niece Karen Garrabrant of Bradford, Vermont, niece June and Mark Jones of N. Attleboro, Massachusetts and their children Jake and Samantha, nephew Russell Garrabrant and his fiancée Sonia Santorelli of Woburn, Massachusetts; and niece Suzanne Garrison Terry of Stony Brook, New York. He also leaves Beverly Streeter, his dear friend and partner, of Murrells Inlet SC. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Garrabrant, of Daytona Beach, and by his brothers Russell and Lloyd of Connecticut.
Jay loved working on his collector cars, which he did for many years. He was a good and loyal friend to many people. He loved dogs and he leaves behind his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Molly. He loved to work in the yard and there was nothing he couldn’t fix or improve. He started playing golf when he moved to the Myrtle Beach area and loved playing at every opportunity.
A memorial service will be held at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, on Friday, July 16, at 10:00 a.m.
