Janice Todd Obituary

Janice Catherine Raffaldt Todd, 72, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday December 8, 2023 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was born on March 23, 1951 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Fred & Dezi Raffaldt.

Along with her parents, “Cathy,” as she was affectionately known as, is reunited in passing with her husband, David Lee Todd; and her mother in-law who was more like a mother towards her, Inez Johnson Todd.

Cathy was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Cathy’s true passion in life was her family, especially her grandsons. She relished time spent at their various sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader. Cathy beamed with pride every time her grandsons killed a deer and was so proud of the men they are becoming. “Boys will be boys,” she would say. And to her boys: "Enjoy the rest of your life, hunting, driving the back roads and fishing. Know that every bass, every deer and crisp morning in the tree stand... I am there."

Cathy’s love for her family was parallelled only by the love she had for animals. She was avid in rescuing dogs and was a total dog lover! In her free time, Cathy enjoyed time spent in her garden and working tirelessly on her yard. Cathy had a green thumb and could make anything grow. She passed her loved of being outdoors, to her daughter who proudly learned how to grow roses with her mother.

Cathy enjoyed the finer things in life. She found peace while riding her Harley Davidson tricycle with the wind in her hair and the sun warm on her shoulders. She enjoyed dining at Texas Roadhouse and Greggs Cabana where she loved to play music bingo. Above all else, Cathy loved her family with her whole heart. She was truly a beacon of love, light and acceptance. Her unbiased demeanor made her a comfort too many to confide in. All who had the honor of knowing Cathy, would attest to her lack of filter and the ability she had to eloquently give the advice you needed to take… Her honest and straight method of communication made it so you knew she cared. Cathy was a firecracker and had a zest for life. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her quick wit, bright smile and the love she had for her family.

As Cathy went to be with our Lord in Heaven, she remarked on how excited she was, to go fishing with Inez at the PeeDee River spot they had frequented in life. To Cathy, that was her heaven. May she rest in peace.

Left to cherish Cathy’s memory are her daughter, Crystal Nicole Ely and her husband, Samuel Richard Ely of Socastee, SC; God-daughter, Dr. Lisa Y. Usher of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, Samuel "Luke" Ely, Trapper Kyle Ely, & Kimberly Faith Ely; God-grandson, Braxton of Lancaster, SC; sisters, Margie Shipp & Joyce __ both of VA; 2 fur-babies, Braxton & Tanner; as well as a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
