James "Jimy" Preston Hawfield

James “Jimy” Preston Hawfield, 66, of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on February 26, 2026.

Born on July 2, 1959, to Houston and Beatrice Hawfield, Jimy was raised in Monroe, NC, where he attended Monroe High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science from Wingate University and later retired from Union County after a dedicated career as a parole and probation supervisor.

More than any accomplishment, Jimy was devoted to his family. He shared 15 cherished years with his beloved wife, Debbie, whom he built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and steadfast companionship with.

Jimy was a proud and loving father to Kaleb, Melissa, and Stephanie. He offered constant encouragement, a listening ear, and unconditional support. As “Paw Paw” to Lex, Bryce, and Ellie, he reveled in celebrating their successes—especially cheering them on from the sidelines of their sporting events.

He lived life with simple joys and loyal passions: golf, cornhole, the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Carolina Panthers, the Boston Red Sox, and time well spent with friends. Known for his gentle spirit, quick wit, patience, and loyalty, Jimy was a man of few words, but the words he shared were always meaningful. His presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Jimy is survived by his loving wife, Debra Ficklin; his children, Kaleb Hawfield, Melissa Hagen, and Stephanie Thomas; his grandchildren, Lexus Hagen, Bryce Hagen, and Elliette Thomas; his brother, Hugh Hawfield; and his nephew, Jake Hawfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Beatrice Hawfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jimy’s memory to Belin United Methodist Church.

Though he may no longer be with us, Jimy’s love, values, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of the family he so dearly cherished.
