James B Porter

James B. Porter, 74, passed away on Saturday May 30, 2020 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on May 12, 1946 in Fairfield, Illinois to the late James E. & Luciell (Ralston) Porter.

Along with his parents, Jim is reunited in passing with his son, James Robert Porter.

Jim was a hardworking man with a heart of gold. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1968 - 1970. Following his honorable discharge, Jim was able to enjoy the finer things in life. He was a skilled dietician for many years in the hospital system. He also worked in a wood factory while living in Virginia. Upon his well-deserved retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and attending Saved by Grace Freewill United Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. Jim will forever be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family and the Lord. He will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his beloved wife, Carolyn (Patterson) Porter of Myrtle Beach; son, Brian Porter of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Teresa Thrasher of Sullivan, IL; brothers, Clarence E. Porter of Columbia, TN & Charles Porter of Centralia, IL; grandchildren, Leah Michelle (Waylon) James, Jacob (Jerica) Thrasher, Marissa (Chris) Davis, & Kristen (Phil) Mosser, great-grandchildren, Jett James, Aeralyn Thrasher, Lane Mosser, Bailey Mosser, Brayden Davis, & Bradley Davis; nephews, Alan Porter & Donavan Porter; niece, Rhonda Porter; several cousins; a large, loving, extended family; and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Wednesday June 3, 2020 at 11:00AM at Saved By Grace Freewill Baptist Church, 8299 Hwy 707 Myrtle Beach, SC 29588. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 878 TN-81, Jonesborough, TN 37659 on Thursday June 4, 2020 at 2:00PM.
