Iris Ruth Smith

Iris Ruth Smith, 96, of Garden City, SC, died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand. She was born in Croom, MD, to the late James Philip Tayman and Ruth Cleveland Fowler.

She worked at Peoples Life Insurance Company until she retired after 25 years of service. Iris loved to bowl. While she lived in Maryland she was a member of the Duckpins Bowling League. She was the president of the Ladies Auxiliary in the Clinton, MD, Volunteer Fire Department from 1976 through 1977.

In addition to her parents, Iris is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Vivien Dunkin Smith along with one son James Kenneth Smith, one brother and three sisters.

Survivors include; one daughter, Vivian Darlene (Lee) Berry; one son Bobby (Margery) Smith; daughter in law, Shirley Smith; four grandsons, one granddaughter, one great grandson, six great granddaughters, one great great grandson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, 1000 SC 544, Conway, SC 29526.
