Henry Gerald “Jerry” Pirnie, 83, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born and raised in West Springfield, Massachusetts, Jerry was a proud New Englander at heart. He devoted nearly 30 years of service to Breck Shampoo before continuing his career with American Saw. After retiring at an early age, having already raised his family, he and his beloved wife, Diana, began a new chapter together in Murrells Inlet, where they enjoyed friendship, sunshine, and the simple pleasures of life.
Jerry shared 60 loving years of marriage with Diana, the love of his life. To his friends, he was known simply as “Jerry,” but to his family he was affectionately called “Poppy” — a name that meant warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
He was a loving and proud father to Pamela Brown, Brian Pirnie, and Karen Wildes, and a cherished father-in-law to David Wildes. Though Pamela passed before him, she was always held close in his heart. Jerry was a loving grandfather to ten grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and nothing meant more to him than time spent together.
A faithful man, Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, reflecting his strong values of charity and service. He was also deeply involved in a local charity known as the White Elephant, where donated furniture and household items were sold at discounted prices to help others in the community. Jerry took pride in giving his time there, staying busy, meeting people, and doing what he could to make a difference.
In his retirement community, he formed lasting friendships and was always ready to lend a hand. Whether mowing a neighbor’s lawn, tidying a yard, helping at White Elephant, or simply stopping to share a story, Jerry kept himself busy because caring for others was simply who he was.
He will be remembered most for his quick wit, his big heart, and the smile that could light up a room. He loved a good joke and often repeated his playful saying, “All dogs go to heaven,” a line that never failed to bring a grin to those who knew him best. It was just one of the many small things that made Jerry so special.
He will never be forgotten, and his smile will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him.
We were so blessed to call him ours.
