Helen Etling Obituary

Helen M. (Whetsel) Etling, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC (formerly of Scottdale, PA) passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at home, following a brief illness.

She was born on August 21, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, PA, daughter of the late Lawrence S. and Opal M. (Freed) Whetsel.

Helen was a graduate of Southmoreland High School, Class of 1965. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Alverton United Methodist Church and currently attending Calvary Chapel Myrtle Beach. Helen’s hobbies included going to casinos anywhere, collecting antiques and playing card games with the girls.

Helen is survived by her husband of 54 years, William, her children, Nina M. Miller and husband Cary of Latrobe, PA, and U.S.A.F Senior Master Sergeant (retired) William A. Etling Jr. and Janine of Pueblo, CO. Her grandchildren she adored, U.S.A.F Staff Sergeant Collin J. Etling and wife Catt of Aviano Air Force Base, Aviano, Italy, Senior Airmen Jonathan T. Etling of Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, AK and Aimee M. Siecinski of Latrobe, PA. She was the sister of Lawrence F. Whetsel and wife Linda, of Kissimmee, FL and Donna F. Petraglia and husband Carmen, of Mt. Pleasant, PA. She was also the sister-in-law of Richard H. Etling and wife Brenda of Derby, KS and Jean Nedrow of Virginia. Helen had many nieces and nephews whom she adored dearly. She was also survived by her friends Gail, Billie, Linda, Sue, Karen, Greg and the boys. She was especially grateful for her girls on Claremont Court.

As per Helen’s wishes, all services will be private.  The family suggests that donations be made to Alverton United Methodist Church, 408 S. 4th St., Youngwood, PA 15697 or Calvary Chapel Myrtle Beach (attn. Camp Arrowood), 316 Bush Dr., Myrtle Beach, SC 29579.
