Harvey John “Johnny” Lowes, born June 30, 1961, was born and raised in Murrells Inlet, the place he proudly called home his entire life. A true son of the Lowcountry, Johnny was known by many as a fisherman and a proud “creek rat” who felt most at peace on the water.
Johnny had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether he was flounder gigging under the night sky, casting a line in his favorite fishing spot, or hunting in the early morning hours, he lived for the simple, honest joys of nature. The creeks and marshes of Murrells Inlet weren’t just places to him — they were part of who he was.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Lowes and Patsy Lowes; his stepson, David Shelton; and his son, Travis Lowes.
Johnny leaves behind his wife, Terri Lowes. His children, Ben Henderson, Rebecca Howard, and Tanner Lowes, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He was a proud grandfather to Xander Lowes, Naomi Howard, Chris Howard, Karly Howard and Christina Squires who brought him great pride and joy.
A service to celebrate Johnny’s life will be held at Burroughs Funeral Home, located at 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576, on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
Johnny will be remembered for his love of the water, his strong spirit, and the stories that only a true creek man could tell. His legacy lives on in his family and in the waters of Murrells Inlet that he loved so dearly.
