Harold Madison East, 73, husband of Patricia "Pattie" East, died peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at home in Pawleys Island, SC.
Mr. East was born on April 9, 1947, the son of the late Clifford Madison East and Elsie Hartman East. He grew up in Roanoke, VA, and was proud to be an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Huguenot High School, then attended Virginia Tech. He joined the U. S. Navy as a computer technician, serving in Damneck, Virginia.
Surviving are: his wife of Pawleys Island, his daughter Amy Marie Crawford, son-in-law Troy Crawford, grandson Joshua Logan Crawford, and granddaughter Abigail Loren Crawford, of Richmond, VA.
"Music was always the fun side of his life." Harold began to play the Resonator Guitar in 1974 and became a six-time Virginia State Champion at the Virginia Folk Music Association (VFMA). He MC'd at Bluegrass festivals nationwide for 20 years; he took pleasure in recording six CD's. He was talented and special, with a kind soul. Always a smile, always encouraging, never a harsh word, never a complaint, always there for others and most importantly, always Harold. He's in Heaven pickin' and smiling with a golden dobro on his lap.
In 1980, he developed a software product called "BUNDL", and sold it to Legent Corp. in 1984. Today, BUNDL has been installed in major companies worldwide, such as Home Depot, J. C. Penney, and Kraft Foods.
In 2012, Harold and Pattie moved from Virginia to Pawleys Island and made Heritage Plantation their low country home. One of his greatest loves was playing golf with his friends and neighbors who belong to the Weekend Warrior group.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
