Gerald “Jerry” Fields, 83, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Upton and Framingham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at MUSC in Charleston, surrounded by family.
Born on November 7, 1941, in Framingham, MA, Jerry lived a life filled with hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to those he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and went on to build a long career in construction and engineering, where his work ethic and reliability earned the respect of many.
Those who knew him best will remember his warm smile, his sense of humor, and his love for life’s simple pleasures — grilling a great meal, watching his New England Patriots, keeping his lawn immaculate, traveling with his beloved wife, and savoring his favorite treat: ice cream. He also had a deep fondness for classic cowboy and western films.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Susan Fields; his son, Jeffrey Fields; his grandson, Ryan Fields, and Ryan’s wife, Jordyn Fields. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Fields, and his parents, Emery and Leona Fields.
Those closest to Jerry will remember him as someone who “never met a stranger,” a man whose kindness and warmth made everyone feel like a friend.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Burrough’s Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
