George Smith, 79, passed away peacefully at his Surfside Beach, SC home on February 8, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. After attending Butler High School, George joined the National Guard, got married and moved his family to Sparta, where he spent 25 years as a Little League coach, taking his Navahos all the way to the Little League World Championship in Williamsport, PA. In addition, George helped form the youth basketball program in Sparta, also lending his hand coaching. This program produced two NBA players. George worked many years at Dynapac Corporation in Stanhope, NJ as their advertising manager. He eventually started his own marketing and communications company, Advantage Advertising, in Hackettstown and in Hope, NJ.
