George William Johnson “Smiley”

George William Johnson “Smiley”, 74, of Murrells Inlet, SC passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 at his residence. He was born October 19, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Walter and Sylvia Johnson.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, James, Jerry, John and Frank.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty eight years, Diane Ethel Johnson of Murrells Inlet; two sisters, Rose Hall of Melvindale, Michigan and Jean Hollister of White Cloud, Michigan; and two brothers, Jack Johnson of Manchester, Michigan and Charles Johnson of Bellville, Michigan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Smiley loved cars, movies, hanging out at the pool, being with his family and doing whatever he could for others. When he was with the kids he was the piggy back ride guy and made them laugh by speaking to them in his Donald Duck voice or simply watching cartoons with them.

He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges, the Detroit Carpenters Union and the Charron Show Service of Detroit.

Smileys family held a private family visitation with cremation to follow.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Charles Hollister, Kim Hall, Burroughs Funeral Home and all those nieces and nephews who brought so much joy into his life. Also all of the friends, including the buddies at the pool, Scott and “the Gal” along with our beautiful neighbors who were so kind to him. Each of you molded him by shared experiences which made him the wonderful man that he was.
