Gary “Hop” Edward Hopkins, Sr., 73, of Watertown, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at NHC of Garden City. He was born February 17, 1948, in Murphysboro, IL, a son of the late Woodrow and Melva Hopkins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patti Jo Fioretto Hopkins; one brother, Philip Hopkins; and three brothers-in-law, Larry P. Fioretto, Joseph Germonto & Marin Germonto.
Survivors include two daughters, Michele Patchen and her husband, Dominic of Constantia, NY and Tina Borgstrom of N. Vernon, IN; two sons, Patrick Hopkins and his wife, Kara of Hutto, TX and Gary Hopkins and his wife, Meagan Hopkins of Henderson, NV; a step-daughter, Nicole Bovee and her husband, Peter; brothers, Larry Hopkins and his wife, Julie of Sioux City, IA, Don Hopkins of Hartford, IL, Dan Hopkins and his wife Laurie of Edwardsville, IL and Jeff Hopkins; grandchildren, D.J., Jailynn, Eva, Christopher, Kasey, Elijah, and Zachary; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Ecker and her husband, Orville of Bradenton, FL, and Sylvia Germonto of Ramona, CA; one brother-in-law, Richard Fioretto and his wife, Anne of Summerfield, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy Reserves. He also later retired from the City of Watertown Department of Public Works.
Hop was a member of the Watertown Elks Club. He enjoyed playing golf, softball, bowling and spending time with family and friends.
Services will be held at a later date. Those times will be announced when arrangements have been finalized.
The family has requested that memorial contributions in Hop’s name be made to a charity of one’s choice.
