Gary Alvin Curtis, 91, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Deale, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026.
Born on February 16, 1935, in Washington, D.C., Gary was the son of the late Oscar Curtis and Cora Myers Curtis. He lived a full and active life centered around family, friendships, and the outdoor pursuits he loved.
Gary enjoyed spending time on the golf course and had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR and faithfully supported the Washington Redskins throughout the years. He was a proud member of the Coastal Carolina Shields and valued the friendships and fellowship that came with his involvement. Gary retired after serving as a police officer for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Cathy Wright and her husband, Larry, of North Potomac, Maryland; his son, David Curtis and his wife, Janet, of Arnold, Maryland; and his grandchildren, Andrew Wright and his wife, Amanda, of Hagerstown, Maryland, Brandon Wright and his wife, Amy, of Pennsville, New Jersey, and Justin Wright of North Potomac, Maryland. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Blaine, Aliana, and Zoe, who brought him great joy.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sons, Gary Curtis, Jr. and Steven Curtis.
Gary will be remembered for his love of family, his appreciation for the outdoors, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
