G. David Halpin Obituary

George “Dave” Halpin most affectionately known as “Giggy” to his grandchildren, age 77 of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away peacefully on June 20th, 2022 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Dave was born in Lenox, MA to George T. Halpin and Mildred Barden Halpin on September 9th, 1944, he is preceded in death by his father George T. Halpin, mother Mildred Barden Halpin, and brother Ronald J. Halpin.

Dave graduated from Lenox Memorial High School in 1962 where he was known by his nickname “Gigger” and he played baseball and basketball throughout his years there. He served as a member of the Army National Guard in 1963 for 6 months, he then went on to work at Lenox Machine where he traveled frequently and loved sharing his experiences of sightseeing across Europe.  Dave went on to become a member of the Local 41 Elevator Union, he worked at Baystate Elevator starting in 1971 and finished his career out at Otis Elevator where he retired at the age 58.  Dave was a lifelong member of the American Legion and a member at the VFW, The Moose Lodge, and the Elks Lodge.  He enjoyed playing golf and played at the GEAA for many years, he was an avid Boston sports fan, enjoyed cooking, and loved spending time at the beach.  Dave and his wife Eileen moved from the Berkshires to the Myrtle Beach area in 2005 to enjoy their retirement years.  Dave had a smile and a personality that could light up any room and he will be missed by so many.

Dave is survived by his wife Eileen Halpin whom he was married to for almost 13 years, daughter Jodi Halpin Raynor of Woburn, MA, son Jeffrey S. Halpin of Waitsfield, VT, his beloved grandchildren Emily Grace Raynor and Jackson David Raynor both of Woburn, MA, stepson Bill Gazaw and his wife Kelly, stepdaughters Kris, and Michelle St Marie and her husband John of Pittsfield, MA , and their children and grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service scheduled at a later date. Those details will be announced when finalized.
