Floyd Colet Long, Jr.

Floyd Colet Long, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday January 19, 2023 at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on February 23, 1942 in Belmont, North Carolina to the late Floyd C. Long, Sr. & Ruby Elise Long.

Along with his parents, Floyd is reunited in passing with his brothers, Brad & Norman Long.

Floyd was a skilled and dedicated civil engineer for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed a good stogy while reminiscing with friends on his porch. Floyd also enjoyed time spent bird watching and watching old westerns on TV.  Floyd enjoyed NASCAR with his friends. Floyd was a social butterfly who enjoyed the occasional visit to his local watering hole, Danny Lee’s. Above all else, Floyd loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the love he had for his family and the pride he took in being, “Pop.”

Left to cherish Floyd’s memory are his sons, Mike Long and wife, Shannon of Chester, SC, Steven Long and wife, Lorraine of Charlotte, NC, & "adopted" son, Bubba Owens of Murrells Inlet, SC; granddaughters, Shelby, Cassie & Michaela; great-granddaughters, Olivia & Montana; sister, June Boyles and husband, Donnie of Charlotte, NC; best friends, Buck, Benny, Red, & Terry; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Floyd’s life will be held on Thursday January 26, 2023 at 2:00PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will gather to greet friends from 1:00PM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, 2408 S Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, SC.
