In Loving Memory of Faye Baker Burchfield Foster

A Life Remembered

It is with profound sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Mother and Nana, Faye. Known for her remarkable health and vibrant spirit, Faye departed this life peacefully at her home in Garden City, South Carolina, May 12, 2026, for her final Home Reunion in Glory.

A memorial service is planned for May 16th at Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services 3558 Old Kings Highway Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. Visitation is at 4PM and a service at 5PM, to be officiated by Reverend Gary Reeves. Dress is casual.

Early Life and Family

Faye was born in Dandridge, Tennessee, on April 30, 1937, to Clarence and Minnie Brown Pruitt Baker. She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Candace Marz (Craig), Susan Metallo (David), Eric Burchfield (Wanda), and Rose Foster (Karyn). Faye’s legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Shannon Matera (Joe), Richie Agle, Heather Mishoe (Ben), Maggi Agle (Colin), Elizabeth Horne, and Gabriel Marz (Hunter). She was also the proud great-grandmother of Nicholas Habiger, Noah Habiger, River Mishoe, Riley Mishoe, Jared Kemper, and Carson Brinegar.

Those Who Preceded Her

Faye was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosa Bumgardner and Doris Baker Walker; her brothers, Ronnie Baker and Jerry Baker; and her grandson, Greg Vaughn. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Baker Reece and beloved brother-in-law, Bill Walker.

Career and Community

Faye dedicated much of her life to service in her community. She worked for the Horry County School District from 1976 through 2012 in the cafeteria, impacting and feeding countless lives. Additionally, she spent 17 years at Wayside Seafood Restaurant in Murrells Inlet. Her final years in the workforce, spent managing the cafeteria at Carolina Forest High School, were especially cherished. There, she became a continuous source of strength and energy for all who had the privilege of knowing her. Throughout her career, Faye was cherished by generations of family and friends. She loved her Socastee Braves. Once a Brave, always a Brave.

Culinary Gifts and Traditions

Faye was renowned for her cooking, sharing delicious and memorable meals with everyone she knew. Her culinary skills brought joy to countless gatherings, and she will be remembered as an irreplaceable presence in the lives of all who loved her.

To commemorate and honor Faye’s memory, all are encouraged to share pizza slices together frequently at lunchtime—a simple act that celebrates her love of bringing people together.
