Evelyn Shields "Eve" Brooks, formerly of Colebrook, CT and Salem, SC passed away peacefully at her home in Pawley's Island on March 19th, 2026, surrounded by her children. She was born in Concord, NH on June 23, 1935, to the late Joseph Dunbar Shields, Jr. and Evelyn Caine Shields, Eve was also pre-deceased by her brother, Joseph Dunbar Shields, III and two husbands, William C. Riddle, Jr. and Otto Brooks.
Eve graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and taught math at Canton High School in Canton, CT for 31 years where she was much beloved by her students. She was awarded the State Of CT Department of Education Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching in 1984.
While raising her family in Colebrook, CT, Eve was active in her community. She sang in the church choir, was a member of the Garden Club and played an excellent game of tennis. After retirement, Eve moved to beautiful Lake Keowee where she lived an active life for 30 years, enjoying the lake and sunset views from her porch.
In her later retirement, Eve moved to Pawley's Island to be closer to her children. Of course, she was the life of her new community and made many new friends, played bridge as a member of the Pawley's Island Bridge Club, joined a book club and was a member of The Abbey at Pawley's Island where she and her "posse" attended services.
Eve is survived by a sister, Sarah Shields of Berkeley, CA, a daughter, Lee Ciarcia of Georgetown, SC, a son, William Judy (Cynde) of Surfside Beach, SC, Step-son, Phil Brooks (Maryanne) of Colley ,TX, step-sons, William Riddle, Richard Riddle and step-daughters, Cynthia Riddle and Susan Riddle. She leaves behind many loving grandchildren including Aaron Lagasse, Mike Judy (Nikki), Christina Ciarcia, Cody Riddle, Julie Riddle and Coleman Riddle, and great-grandchildren, Avry Lagasse, Lilly Judy and Eva Judy. Eve also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to honor Eve will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at The Abbey at Pawley's Island. All are welcome to attend and remember Eve's engaging wit and bright smile.
