Ethel Ann Comer, a resident of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away on October 16, 2023.
Born in Camden, South Carolina, Ethel moved to Maryland as a young girl. She lived throughout Maryland, with a career in secretarial and administrative services at NASA, the US Department of Agriculture, Andrews Airforce Base, and the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Facility. She retired with her husband George Comer to Murrells Inlet in 2001.
Ethel was an adventurer and a very creative person. She and her best friend and husband of 48 years traveled extensively, visiting every state capitol in the United States. Together they collected brilliant period cut glass through their antiques business of 40 years and helped organize the South Strand Antique Arts Association in 2004. Ethel was funny, artistic, articulate, and thoughtful. She was a great chef, an avid reader, and a fun person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nell Dabney and Earl Dabney, and her sister, Susan Ellison. Ethel is survived by her loving husband, George Comer, daughter, Christy Tafoya, son-in-law, Steve Tafoya, niece, Ann Marie Handwork, and nephews, David Ellison and Richard Ellison. She also leaves behind many friends in the community and the antiques show circuit.
A service to honor Ethel’s life will be held at 10 AM on October 27th at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. A visitation with the family at the Funeral Home will be held immediately following the service.
