Eileen S. Gibson

Eileen S. Gibson, 80, of Conway, SC, formerly of Alexandria, VA, died on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Conway Medical Center. She was born in Freeport, PA, to the late June and Arthur Smock.

Eileen was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, cheering on the Steelers, the Penguins and the Pirates. She was such a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates that formed a friendship with Roberto Clemente and his family.

After graduating from the Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1962, she continued her education, graduating from the Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Anesthesia in 1965. Eileen loved her job as a nurse anesthetist and worked in the Northern Virginia area for over 40 years. She had a strong faith and was a devout Christian. She was a member of the Juniper Bay Baptist Church in Conway, SC.

In addition to her parents, Eileen is preceded in death by two children and two brothers.

Survivors include her husband, John A. Gibson of Conway, SC; daughter Kelly E. Gibson and her husband, Dr. Peter McGarry of Centerville, VA; stepdaughter, Tiffiny Chesley of Moncks Corner, SC; sister, Mary (Paul) Lefebvre of Ocala, FL; two grandchildren, Maya E. McGarry of Centerville, VA and Ryan Blood of James Island, SC.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the family members and friends for their prayers, phone calls, texts and acknowledgements of sympathy and support during this time of grief.

A celebration of Eileen’s life will held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial contribution be made to Juniper Bay Baptist Church, 5265 Juniper Bay Rd, Conway, SC 29526.
