Edward "Joe" Frederickson Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share the news that Edward “Joe” Frederickson entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 26, 2022 at the age of 91. He passed at home surrounded by family. Most people knew him as a softball player all his life. Others knew him in his various positions climbing the ladder at PSE&G in NJ from where he retired in June 1994.  We knew him as a wonderful, kind and caring DAD. Many always wondered how he survived with 5 daughters in the house. He did it with grace and pride.

Joe grew up in Irvington, NJ with his parents and 7 siblings.  He entered the Marines in 1948 and served in the Korean War. After discharge in 1952 he met our mother and they were wed on January 17, 1953. Although his lifelong passion was softball, Joe always found time to partake in other activities. He led a young boy’s Drill Team at the Iselin V.F.W., Post 2636 during the 1960’s and they marched in every parade during the holidays.  He loved taking our family camping throughout the U.S. when we were young. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Once retired, Joe lived in Spring Hill, Florida July 1995 – 2006 before moving to Murrells Inlet, SC to be closer to family. During these years he entered the Senior softball Leagues, often playing ball 5 days a week. It was during these years that he played nationally. Over a period of ten years, he and his teammates won 4 Slow Pitch National/World Series Championships in Texas, California and Michigan. Each win he was awarded a championship ring and he wore them proudly.

His last chapter of life was living in South Carolina. He lived in Seasons retirement community where he found love and friendship. After the passing of his wife, Joan in 2014, he carried on engaging in the activities provided by his community. In 2016 he met Honey Moran, who was the partner he needed to keep him going. They spent almost 6 years together and to her, we say “thank you”. We know you will miss him dearly.

Joe was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Joan P. (Angus) Frederickson. Those also gone before him, his parents, Joseph & Sophie Frederickson, his brothers, Paul, Eddie and Buddy and his sisters, Anna & Gracie. He has 2 surviving sisters, Lillian Greenstein and Helen Heckel.

Joe will be deeply missed by his daughters, Debra Moynihan in Murrells Inlet, SC, Barbara Frederickson in Spring, Texas, Susan Perrette in Southport NC, Diane Minicozzi in Surfside Beach, SC and Joan Gemmell in Bethlehem, PA. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren . His grandsons Joey Frederickson & Christopher Moynihan predeceased him.

Two Celebrations of Life will be offered, so that many will not need to travel.

The first will be held on Saturday, October 8th from 1 – 4pm at the Italian American Club, 1001 Garibaldi Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ.

The second will be offered on Thursday, October 13th from 11am – 2pm at Season’s Amenity Center in Prince Creek, Murrells Inlet, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to:
