Edward Harold Payne, 81 of Pawleys Island, SC passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at home with his family near him.
He was more commonly known as Eddie, Ed, Big Ed, and Granddaddy. He was born in Knoxville,Tennessee, “GO VOLS” and was the son of the late Harold McQueen Payne and Evelyn Rose Polston Payne.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife and fishing partner of 40 years, Brenda “Nana” Payne.
Survivors include his one and only daughter, Karie Osler and her husband Birk of Goose
Creek, SC; his three sons, Butch Elliott of Bridgeport, WV, Chad Payne and his wife Tina of
Greenville, SC and Craig Payne and his wife Angie of Kansas. His loving grandchildren and
great-grandchildren: Ashley, Brayden, Cherokee, Dalton, Katelyn, Kyra, Reid, Skylar, and
Stone. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie Hutcheson along with her daughter Sally
Hutcheson Green and Family, and his brother Steve Payne.
Ed was wonderful husband and a proud and loving father; he joined the United States Army
at age 17 and was a member of the elite 82 nd Airborne. He loved the outdoors, especially
boating and fishing. He worked many years of construction and through all of this he had
met many people that he talked about all the time. He was also an overwhelming father
figure to many of his children’s friends and will be missed greatly by so many.
We Love You to The Moon and Back, give Nana kisses for us and we’ll see you again.
The Family would like to give thanks to family, friends, and nurses for all their support and
love over the years and a special thank you to Pastor Johnny Ford of the House of God
Church of Pawleys Island for his grace with Mom and Dad.
A Celebration of his life will be planned in the near future but at this time no service will be
held.
