Edward Kelly Obituary

Edward Joseph Kelly, 92, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday July 2, 2020 at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on April 1, 1928 and was raised in New York City.

Ed is preceded in passing by his beloved wife, of 54 years, Maud (Childs) Kelly and their infant son, John Kelly.

Growing up in Greenwich Village, Ed rubbed elbows with a number of New York City’s famous. In the 1960s, Ed owned and managed The Riviera Café, a hip and lively bar in downtown Manhattan. After moving to New Jersey, he remained in the restaurant business & also sold real estate.

He had a love of jazz music, classic boxing, was charismatic, and lived a full life. Most of all, he was devoted to the love of his life, Maud, who he cherished. After retirement, Ed spent his time reading, writing, studying the stock market and politics. He also made sure to provide business & financial advice to his 4 grandchildren, taking a sincere and loving interest in all of their professional opportunities & endeavors. He will be deeply missed for his wise words, quick wit, & his strong faith in God.

Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his children, Glen Richard Monturi of Mahwah, NJ & Jodi Fatuova and her husband, John of Murrells Inlet, SC; his adoring grandchildren, Ashley, Arielle, Alyssa & Glen; as well as many supportive friends and neighbors.

A memorial mass in honor of Ed & Maud’s life will be combined and celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church, 572 Cypress Ave. Garden City, SC on Thursday July 9, 2020 at 2:00PM. Inurnment will immediately follow the service within the church columbarium.

At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Memorials in Ed’s name may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
