Dorthy “Dot” Lou Stanfill Roepe, 94, residing in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, formerly of Exton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late George W. Roepe, Jr., to whom she was married for 67 years.
Born in McCrory, Arkansas, Dot was the daughter of Nova O. Edwards Stanfill Capshaw and George W. Stanfill. A graduate of McCrory High School, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she trained as a bookkeeper and met the charming Navy man who became her husband.
Dot was a devoted mother to four children: Susan Dunmoyer, Mary Bricker (husband Gary), Gordon (Bill) Roepe, and Laura Sousa (husband Fernando). She was sadly preceded in death by Susan and Gordon. She was a loving grandmother to Jan Ainger (husband Tim) and Meagan Bricker, and proud to have two great-granddaughters.
She was the middle child of seven children; she is survived by her sister Betty Allen. She was predeceased by siblings Donnie Murphy, Elbert Stanfill, Evelyn Miller, Clarence Stanfill, and Martha Chalmere.
Dot had a passion for crafting and painting, continuing to create beautiful artwork well into her 90’s, often giving her pieces to friends and family. A social spirit, she was crowned queen of her local Red Hat Society chapter in Pennsylvania and enjoyed many lively gatherings. She also led the local chair aerobics class in her community. She and George shared a love for travel, visiting all 50 states as well as Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Canada. They embraced square dancing and RV’ing and spent many joyful years with friends and family.
A Celebration of Dot’s life will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dot’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, or to a charity of your choice.
