Dorothy Alice Wood, 75, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday April 15, 2026 while at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was born on May 29, 1950 in Yonkers, New York to the late George & Martha Blacck Schaefer.
Along with her parents, Dee is reunited in passing with her beloved husband, Mr. Chester W. Wood; daughter, Dorothy Wood; and sister in-law, Evanne "Ann" Hyatt.
Dee had a sparkling personality that naturally drew people to her. She was warm and welcoming and always there to lend a hand. Her time spent in the hospitality and restaurant industry was filled with making life-long connections and memories. In her free time, Dee knew family was her priority. She enjoyed cooking bountiful meals and entertaining for holidays and family get-togethers. Dee enjoyed the simple things in life…especially her scratchers. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her quick wit, bright smile and the love she had for her family.
Left to cherish Dee’s memory are her adoring niece and best friend, Kassandra Hyatt, her husband, Arthur Rood and their daughter, Abby Rood of Maryland NY; and an army of friends and supportive neighbors.
A Private Celebration of Dee’s life will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dee’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
