David John “Dave” Wixsom, 61, of Myrtle Beach, passed away from COVID-19 on January 21, 2022 at Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC surrounded by his family.

David was born in Pittsfield to Robert and Frances (Pignone) Wixsom on December 7, 1960. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1978. He married his high school sweetheart Joan (Galletly) Wixsom on February 13, 1982 at St. Marks Church in Pittsfield. He worked as a mold polisher for Modern Mold & Tool for many years and WSPS in Great Barrington until becoming disabled due to cardiac issues.

Dave was a lover of golf, game shows, trivia, playing cards, and football Sundays watching his Colts. Dave especially loved his family, he was the best husband, father and Papa anyone could ever asked for. He served as a surrogate father to most of his children’s friends and always had words of wisdom and was a shoulder to cry on. Dave loved all creatures big and small and always looked out for the underdog.

David is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Frances (Pignone) Wixsom of Pittsfield, his in-laws John and Margaret (Scorpa) Galletly of Pittsfield, and his son-in-law Marc Griffin of Lanesborough.

David is survived by his wife and best friend of nearly forty years, Joan Wixsom of Myrtle Beach; his beloved children Stephanie (Wixsom) Griffin of Myrtle Beach, SC and Michael Wixsom (Francielle) of Pittsfield; his brothers, Robert Wixsom (Bonnie) of Lanesborough, and Richard Wixsom (Tina) of Centerville; his sister-in-law Lynn Galletly-Fotiathis (Daniel) of Springfield; his grandchildren and the loves of his life Skylar “Bubba” Whitney, of Enfield, CT and Layla Wixsom of Pittsfield; many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Greenock Country Club, 220 West Park St., Lee, MA, 01238 from 12:00-4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made payable to Joan Wixsom c/o Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC, 29576 to help ease the financial burden of final expenses and the enormous medical costs that have mounted dealing with his most recent illness.
