David Lawton Obituary

David William Lawton, age 81, of Murrells Inlet, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2026. He was born on June 11, 1944, in London, Ontario, Canada.

David proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, carrying the discipline, loyalty, and camaraderie of military life with him throughout the years. He was known for his love of cooking, his passion for hockey—especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs—and a sense of humor that could light up any room. David never met a stranger; his outgoing nature and easy smile made him a friend too many.

Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished time spent with his family and took great pride in the love and laughter they shared.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lawton and Bernice (Earl) Lawton, as well as a brother, Paul Lawton, and his second wife, Charlene Lawton.

David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Lawton of Murrells Inlet, SC; his son Matthew Lawton and his wife, Caelyn of Myrtle Beach, SC; stepchildren, Dale Lewis and his wife, Amy of Colorado, Shawn Lewis and his wife, Norma of Texas, Vicki Fairbanks and her husband, Brian of Massachusetts, Bernice Cross of Maine, Kimberly Lavigne and her husband, Norman of Connecticut, Matthew Yarnell of Arizona, and Christopher Robinson of Arizona.

He is also survived by his sister Sandra Norridge of London, Ontario, Canada, and his brother, Russel Lawton of Winnipeg, Canada, along with numerous grandchildren and great‑grandchildren who will carry his memory forward.

A celebration of Life for David will be announced at a later date.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made in David’s name to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org
