David James Cotton passed away peacefully at his home in Murrell’s Inlet on August 29, 2021. He was the son of the late George and Dorothy Cotton. Dave was born on July 12, 1948 in Lancaster Pa., where he was raised and graduated from Penn Manor High School. He continued his education at Penn State University from where he is a proud graduate. Dave continued his graduate work at The University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Physical Therapy license. Dave bled blue and white. He enjoyed all Philadelphia sports but took a special liking to PSU football and the Eagles.
Dave loved his family, gardening, making and fixing things, as well as wood working. He spent countless hours in his workshop making, sanding, and staining pieces of furniture so that they were perfect. He enjoyed sharing his pieces with others and giving them as gifts. Dave grew to love umpiring shortly after his children started playing little league. Dave and his “umpire buddies” became family who could always count on each other, laughed together, loved to play cards and jokes on one another, and spent many days traveling.
In the beginning of his professional career Dave had his own Physical Therapy clinic, and later retired from Nova Care on Frankfort Ave., in Northeast Philadelphia, in 2013. He made lifelong friends with people that started as colleagues. Dave was dedicated to his job and all his patients, which he truly cared about. His main goal was to get his patients healthy so that they could get back to their life and enjoy the things that brought them happiness. He was a true professional.
In his spare time, Dave enjoyed playing chess, fishing, spending time in his garage, going out to eat with his wife, Barb, and spending time with his family. Dave was an avid golfer. The golf course is where he and Barb spent a gazillion happy days.
