Christa Nivens Obituary

Christa English Nivens passed away on Dec. 24, 2025, in her home with her husband by her side, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Florence, SC, on May 2, 1956, Christa was the daughter of the late Ernest Rob English and the late Christine Jackson English.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Alexander Nivens Jr., of their home in Murrells Inlet, SC. They would have been married 50 years on Jan.16, 2026.

Other survivors include their son, Sandy Nivens (Lauren), daughter Lindsey Altman (C.W.); two grandsons, Gabriel Hudson, and Nolan Nivens; three great grands, Colton, Wesson and Heartlyn Hudson. Also a brother, Ernie English (Lynda); two sisters, Brenda Harrison and Rosemary Williamson.

After graduating from West Florence High School in 1973, Christa started her career as a teller at Peoples Bank of South Carolina which merged with Banker’s Trust of South Carolina in 1979. Christa served as Administrative Assistant to Frank Chisholm who joined Bankers Trust in Florence as City Executive in 1983. This marked the beginning of a professional relationship and friendship which spanned 42 years.

Christa continued working with Frank when he founded Home Health Inc. in 1993, serving as director of administration. After Home Health was sold in 2010 to NHC, Christa joined Frank Chisholm and Jim Brown who started EmployReward Solution Inc. In 2017, they bought Synergi Partners and relocated operations to Florence. Christa oversaw administration for ERS and Synergi and remained Chief Operating Officer of ERS until her passing.

“Her leadership in our business and our community will always be her legacy,” commented Jim Brown. “Christa was a driving force for all our businesses, fund raising and support for Florence area charities.”

Christa has been an active member of the National Employment Network Association (NENA) for over a decade, including serving as the board treasurer and most recently as the board chairman.

In her personal life, Christa was a Girl Scout in her youth and later became a Girl Scout leader of her daughter’s troop in the mid 1980s. She and her husband also served as leaders for Florence Junior Cotillion in the early 1990s.

Christa and Scott enjoyed traveling together, and with friends.

She and Scott found pleasure watching the sunrise with coffee in hand from their porch overlooking the inlet marsh.

She found peace watching the tides ebb and flow from Murrells Inlet into Oak Creek, delighting in the egrets, blue herons and ibis that waded and fed in her yard during high tides.

She also enjoyed watching birds compete for space at her feeders — especially the hummingbirds, many of which she named.

A Master Gardener, Christa loved what she called “playing in the dirt” among her plants and flowers.

Christa was passionate about supporting local charities, including Help For Kids, the House of Hope of the Pee Dee, and Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Foundation.

A gathering with friends and family is being planned for the spring.
