Cheryl "Sam" Mary (Stefan) Smith

Cheryl “Sam” Mary Smith, 77, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, September 8, 2025, after a brief stay at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on March 10, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Wallace & Evelyn (O’Shea) Stefan.

Along with her parents, Sam is reunited in passing with her brother, Bill Stefan, and stepmother, Yolon Stefan.

Sam was a sharp woman who proudly took on problem-solving as a hobby. Always one to keep her mind active, Sam enjoyed reading and doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Above all else, Sam loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed but always remembered as the most loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Left to cherish Sam’s memory are her adoring husband, Charles “Chip” Smith of Surfside Beach; daughter, Kristin Gabrill and her husband, Charles of Langhorne, PA; her adoring granddaughter, Lilah Gabrill; as well as an army of close friends and many supportive neighbors.

A Celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 2 PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
