Charlotte Barczak Obituary

Charlotte Elizabeth Barczak, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, February the 24th. Born in Hingham Mass to William and Elizabeth Blowers nee Hoyt, she was the eldest of four children, educated in Hingham schools she was one of the first women to study and excel in the graphic arts program. She attended Boston School of Art and worked as a window display artist for various department stores in Boston and New York. She met and married Stanley J. Barczak, in Miami Florida and returned to the northeast where they lived in New York City and Greater Boston, they raised a family of 9 children and worked in the hospitality industry. Retiring to the small town of Brownfield Maine, she named their log cabin property “Bittersweet Lodge “after the passing of her husband in 1987. In 1999 she moved to Pawleys Island South Carolina where she resided near the banks of the Waccamaw River leading to Winyah Bay. She enjoyed cooking ,gardening, crafting, painting, collecting and refinishing antiques and items of great “ character “ and being active in  community and church involvement for worthy causes. She admired residential architecture and stylings and took great pleasure in amassing a large collection of literature. Traditional American and Catholic holidays with large gatherings of family and friends were always celebrated with great joy and excitement.  She was a dedicated reader of newspaper obituaries such as this believing that life is precious and everyone’s story is uniquely remarkable and should not go unnoticed.  Her paintings, artistic works and creations adorn the homes of friends and acquaintances along the east coast from top to bottom.  She is survived by children Peter, David and his wife Shannon ,Paul and his wife Mary, Thomas and his wife Yaquelin, Roger and his wife Donna, Daniel, Mary and stepdaughter Claire and her husband Clayton, with stepson John having passed away in 2007 being survived by his wife Sandra, , 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Charlotte will be laid to rest next to her husband in the family plot in Brownfield Maine near “ Bittersweet Lodge “
