Charlie Howard Cook "Charlie", age 80, passed away peacefully Friday May 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lake City, SC, Charlie was the son of the late Client Moorer Cook and Margaret Prosser Cook.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Charlie was very strong in his faith and was a member of Grace & Glory Ministries in Coward, SC. He was a graduate of Bamberg High School, Emmanuel College, and East Carolina University. Charlie received his Master's Degree from SC State College. He worked for the South Carolina Department of Education Transportation Department for 30 years retiring as Supervisor of Bus Transportation. Charlie was an avid golfer and an accomplished basketball player in high school and college. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile and laugh. Charlie was very proud of his children and family and especially loved spending time with his grandsons, Andrew and Mason. He enjoyed watching old westerns, The Marty Stewart Show on RFD-TV and listening to gospel and classic country music. In addition to his parents Charlie is preceded in death by his brother in laws, Charles Grier and Donald Moore.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Dale Lockamy Cook, Lake City, SC; daughter, Brandi Charlene Papel (Tony), Lake City, SC; sons, Grant Howard Cook, Florence, SC; Charlie Brett Cook, Lake City, SC; grandsons, Andrew Cook Papel and Mason Wright Papel, Lake City, SC; sisters, Judy Mae Cook Grier, Hemingway, SC; Peggy Moore, Charleston,SC; several nieces and nephews and a special daughter, Hillary Andren Wise (Lonnie), Parker, CO.
A Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday May 23, 2023 at Grace & Glory Ministries. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the time of service from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Charlie’s name to Grace & Glory Ministries, 4104 US-52, Scranton, SC 29591.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Wade Lamb, Melissa Hucks, Jessica Douglas, Tabitha Powell, Jordan Lyerly, Jimmie Weaver and Chaplain Jerry Fenell for the loving care and attention given to Charlie and his family.
