Charles D. “Chuck” Mayes, age 91, of Garden City, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026.
Chuck was born on June 10, 1934, in Central City, Kentucky, to the late Hobart and Lonie Mayes. He is also preceded in passing by his wife Carol Mayes. He spent his life cherishing the simple joys that brought him happiness, including spending time with family, playing golf, and sitting on his front porch watching birds and people pass by.
He is survived by his son, Michael Mayes and Jill of Waynesville, Ohio; Melissa and James “Trey” Hill of Spartanburg, South Carolina; stepchildren Kim and George Helvin of Kettering, Ohio; Kristy and Mark Geis of West Chester, Ohio; and Kirk Vinings of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory for years to come.
Chuck was a proud member of American Legion Post 178 and valued the friendships and camaraderie he found there. He was also blessed by the devoted care and companionship of Masae Westbrook, his close friend and caregiver for many years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

Chuck will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, and the quiet moments he enjoyed watching the world go by. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
