Carolyn Elizabeth Keelan Griffin, 81, passed away on April 8, 2026, at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She is survived by her son David Griffin, Jr., daughter Kelly Griffin Reale, son-in-law Pat Reale and granddaughters Alexandra and Erin, plus many extended family members and friends. Carolyn is predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, David Griffin, Sr. and brother, Joseph Keelan.
Carolyn was born in Watertown NY to James Keelan and Carolyn Charlebois Keelan. While attending Mohawk County Community College, she was on a fieldwork assignment in New York City when she met her husband, Dave. After being a homemaker while her children were young, she earned graduate degrees from the State University of New York and trained to become a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist. For over 25 years, Carolyn compassionately helped patients from her therapy practices in New York’s Hudson Valley region and later in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Carolyn’s treatment focus was broad, but she was particularly passionate about helping survivors of childhood abuse. She dedicated many hours to this cause through professional practice, retreats, speaking engagements and service on advocacy boards in the greater New York City and Hudson Valley regions.
Upon retirement, Carolyn remained in Murrells Inlet, where she maintained an active social life until the very end. She loved her home near the beach and was grateful for the strong circle of friends and sense of community she developed there.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Agape Hospice for their gentle and compassionate support during Carolyn’s final battle with cancer.
Services will be held in New York on Saturday April 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals (343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205). Luncheon reception to follow.
