Carlton Earl Schiller, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away surrounded by his family in the early morning on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a long battle with Lymphoma and Transverse Myelitis.
He was born August 10, 1952, in Schenectady, NY to the late Carl Schiller and Evelyn Alger.
Carl is survived by his loving spouse of 30 years, Janice Kennedy; and was the adored father of Michael Schiller (Jamie), and the stepfather to Christa Proctor (Mike); and grandfather (aka Pop Pop) of Madsen Schiller. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Michaels (Douglas), sister-in-law Debrorah Schiller-Deuel and former wife Jo-Anne Mein (Donald). He was predeceased by his brother Allan Schiller.
Carl served six years in the United States Navy earning an honorable discharge in 1977. He spent his early childhood in Berne, NY but primarily grew up in Albemarle, NC. Carl later returned to Berne and graduated from Berne-Knox High School in 1970. In 1997 he moved to Pawley’s Island, SC where he spent most of his recent years.
He enjoyed riding his bike, watching movies, working on cars, being outdoors (mowing the lawn), riding motorcycles and spending time with his friends and family. Carl had a positive impact on the lives of everyone he knew, always willing to stop what he was doing to help others. His expertise in the area of engineering was limitless, always able to find a solution for any job or task. He was a happy, positive person every day. Carl always saw the best in people. Throughout his life he showed optimism and perseverance in every challenge that he faced.
Although distance separated them, Carl was a huge supporter of his grandson Madsen’s athletic endeavors. Whether taking advantage of technology which allowed Carl to watch games remotely or flying to New York for a whirlwind hockey weekend filled with early morning games and countless hours spent in the car traveling from rink to rink. Also for many years, Carl followed his love for motorcycles by making the annual trek to the Americade rally in
Lake George, NY where he enjoyed camping and riding with his son Mike and brother Al.
Carl spent most of his IT career (28 years) working for Docusystems in Myrtle Beach, SC where he and his coworkers became like family. Carl was an excellent technician and problem solver earning the nickname “Doc” because he could fix just about anything that others couldn’t. Outside of work Carl found a brotherhood in the family of the Masons Lodge 409 in Pawley’s Island, SC. Here his time was spent volunteering to help the community and those less fortunate. Both of these families were a major center to his life.
Loving partner, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother and friend, he will be greatly and deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th at the Pawleys Island Masonic Lodge #409 located at 75 Haunted Trail, Pawleys Island, SC behind the Village Island shops followed by a service at the Gerald B.H.
