Betty Jane Logan

Betty Jane Logan, born December 26, 1923 in Dallas, NC, died on Monday, May 22, 2023.  She was the daughter of George Herndon Logan, native of Cleveland County, NC, and Alma Westbrook Logan of Cherokee County, SC.  Growing up in the small town of Dallas, she had fond memories of those who influenced her life.  One special person was her Girl Scout leader, Miss Alena Rhyne.  Betty was a graduate of Sacred Heart College in Belmont, NC, where she majored in liberal arts and vocal music.  During WW II, she was a secretary in the Financial Office, U.S. Army, Fort Monroe, Virginia, and for 13 years with Champion Map Corporation in Charlotte, NC.  She was a member of Broad River Genealogical Society in Shelby, NC, and researched her family history.  For many years, she was a member of Saint John’s Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, where she sang in the Chancel Choir and was also a member of the Holy Grounds Sunday School Class.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Conway, SC until her death.

In addition to her 4 siblings, Elizabeth, Nell, Robert and Harold Logan she was predeceased by her daughter, Ellen Taylor.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Anette Lewis (Charles), Carol Logan, one son-in-law, Rocky Taylor; 5 grandchildren, Alan Lewis, Aaron and Adam York, Robbie and Melody Taylor; 5 great-grandchildren, Halle Lewis, Duncan and Marnie York, Hannah and Joshua Taylor.  Betty donated her body for research to the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC.  In memory of her Logan and Herndon relatives, contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 107 Bethlehem Road in Kings Mountain, NC, 28086, and to First Baptist Church of Conway, 603 Elm Street, Conway, SC 29526.
