Betty J. Gordon

Betty J. Gordon, 90, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at NHC of Garden City. She was born November 30, 1934, in Nichols, SC, a daughter of the late Hughie Johnson and Vieno Lehto Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman Wesley Gordon, Jr., one brother, Jack Johnson; a sister, Sylvia Wallace; and son-in-law, Tom Wilson.

Betty is survived by three children, Joe Gordon and his wife,  Kim of Murrells Inlet, SC, Taryn Wilson of Murrells Inlet, and Wes Gordon and his wife, Gina of Murrells Inlet; one sister, Sophie Bryan of Indialantic, FL; one brother, Bob Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Chris Wilson (Ali Wilson), Amanda Hughes, J. Wesley Hughes (Isla Hughes), Jeremy Gordon (Liz Sellers), Joseph Gordon (Paulina Gordon), Dustin Gordon (Morgan Gordon), Denver Gordon, and Eva Gordon; her great grandchildren, Aaron Sellers, Brian Vernon, Arianna Sellers, Jesse Hughes, Andrew Gordon, Gunnar Gordon, Jennings Wilson, Jaxon Gordon, Aurora Alexander and Benton Gordon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was valedictorian in her class at Myrtle Beach High School. She won a scholarship to business school and went on to work for family businesses for many years. She was known for her famous pound cakes and delicious recipes. She loved her family with her whole heart, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Belin United Methodist Church, 4182 US-17 BUS, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 1:00-2:00pm in the Belin sanctuary.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made in Betty’s name to Help4Kids, 2523 Forestbrook Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
