Barbara Pier Obituary

Barbara R. Pier, 90, of Murrells Inlet, SC formerly of North Redington Beach, FL, Oakland, NJ and Newton, MA, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at St. Gabriels of Murrells Inlet. She was born April 02, 1929 in Newton, Massachusetts daughter of the late George Pitts and Rose Timmons Pitts.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over sixty years, Harry A. Pier, Sr.; one daughter, Maribeth Romaine; seven sisters and one brother.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Killion and her husband Keith of Ridgewood, NJ; sons, Harry A. Pier, Jr. and his wife Loury of Largo, FL and Steven J. Pier and his wife Beth of Murrells Inlet, SC; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Barbara loved to read and loved all animals. She graduated from the High School of Our Lady Help of Christians in Newton, MA in 1947. While working in Boston, MA she met the love of her life, a Navy Sailor named Harry A. Pier whom she married in 1948. Together they moved to New Jersey with hopes of beginning a family. Harry and Barbara raised four children in Oakland, NJ until 1980 when they relocated to Florida.

Barbara held many jobs during her lifetime. She was a typist/stenographer, drove special needs children to and from school and held positions in data entry.

A graveside ceremony will be held Monday, March 09, 2020 at 10:00am at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery, 7950 131st Street North, Seminole, Florida.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Barbara’s name to Crescent Hospice, 3959 Hwy 17 Bypass, Suite D, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Gabriel of Murrells Inlet for their loving care for her last three years, Crescent Hospice for her final months and her “angel”, Jane Kaufmann for loving and caring for her at Tower Isle in Florida.
