Barbara Ann Dunning, age 79, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died peacefully at home on August 18th, 2025, in the loving care and company of her husband, Colin, grandson, Devin, and their cat, Zoë. Barbara had been ill for several months, survived a stroke, and was determined to fight on as long as she could, with the help of her family and her hospice team.
She was born in Atwater, California to James and Viola Davis and raised in Los Banos, California. She attended Los Banos and later worked in daycare and sold Avon.
She was a skilled and passionate gardener, and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels that visited regularly. In her younger years, she liked needlework, such as crocheting and cross stitching.
She was a hard-working, independent, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Barbara cared deeply about her family, including her late dog Ringo, and all the cats she's helped raise over the years. She was the solid foundation that her family leaned on. She and her husband Colin adopted their daughter, Stacie in 1970. They also raised their grandson, Devin.
Barbara will be deeply missed and remembered by all who loved her.
A private service will be held by the family in honor of her. In lieu of flowers, donations to All4Paws Animal Rescue in Pawleys Island, SC, as well as other local animal rescues and nature and wildlife organizations such as The Exotic Hause, South Carolina Wildlife Federation, and Carolina Wildlife Rehabilitation are appreciated.
