Anita Barila Obituary

Anita Gay Barila, 68, passed away quietly in her sleep on Wednesday April 20, 2022,
from a fatal pulmonary embolism while on vacation with family at Pawleys Island,
South Carolina.

Anita was a proud “Army Brat” born on December 20, 1953 at Fort
Belvoir, Virginia to Army Presidential Flight Detachment Aviator Chief Carlos Edward
Sheets and Betty Fay Coleman Sheets. Anita married the love of her life, Major Ted
Barila, on June 1, 1984. They would have soon celebrated their too brief but loving
38 years of marriage.

A Celebration of Anita's legacy will be held 10:45 AM Thursday November 2, 2023 at the Main Post Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery.

She was predeceased by herFather, brother Allen, and sister Sharon; as well as Father-in-Law Lieutenant Colonel Timothy George Barila, Mother-in-Law Catherine Frkovich Barila, and Brother-in-Law Thomas George Barila.

She is survived by her Mother, her brother Ken Sheets and spouse Angela with their three children daughter Elizabeth and Jason Leventis and their children son Luca and daughter Isla; daughter Captain Ashleigh and Alex Roeberds and their two children son Carson and daughter Callie, and son Taylor and Ashley Sheets; her spouse, her step daughter Leslie Bernadette Eldredge and spouse Steven Eldredge; her step daughter Michelle Bernadette Cuccherini and spouse Thomas Cuccherini with their two children sons Tommy and Collin.

Anita worked almost 20 years for the Washington Post newspaper in Washington DC
and owned a Curves Fitness Center near Fort Meade, Maryland. She was a proficient
bowler and enjoyed being Secretary of the Women’s International Bowling Congress
(WIBC) of Washington, DC. Anita and Ted bowled in numerous leagues at various
centers over 30 years making friends with hundreds of fellow bowlers. Anita will be
deeply missed by all who knew her, bowled with her, or worked with her.

Anita’s passing shocked all of us as she was in good health and excited about
helping with the upcoming wedding of her niece Erin Cash to Bryant Phillips May 14
2022 near Tavernier, Florida – home to her parents Nick and Tina Cash and brothers
Lee Patrick and Brian. Anita will by deeply missed by her extended family Jim and
Toni Thompson with daughter Kimberley and spouse Dan Stiffler and brother TJ
Thompson; Teri Barila with her daughter Whitney and son Collin and his spouse
Mariah and daughter Valkyrie; Tom and Elizabeth Barila and son Tommy and
