Allen Gustav Hawkinson

Allen Gustav Hawkinson, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 14, 2025, at his home in Pawleys Island surrounded by his loving family.

A first-generation Swedish immigrant, Allen was born in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Gustav and Hilda Hawkinson.

Allen enjoyed a long and successful career in the steel industry, working with both Republic Steel and Corey Steel before his retirement.

A dedicated 16-year volunteer at Brookgreen Gardens, Allen served as a docent and loved sharing his knowledge and passion for art with visitors. He was honored to receive the President’s Council Award each of his 16 years of service, an award given to volunteers who contribute at least 250 hours of their time annually.

He was also an avid reader and wine enthusiast who enjoyed sailing, traveling, skiing, art, jazz music, gourmet cooking, and loved beach picnics.

In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Hawkinson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Elaine Hawkinson of Pawleys Island; sons, Paul Hawkinson and his wife Sheila of Fairfield Township, OH; Mark Hawkinson and his wife Tara of Pawleys Island, SC; granddaughters, Mary Grace Hawkinson and Katie Hawkinson of Fairfield Township, OH; Sarah Hawkinson of Pawleys Island, SC.

A Celebration of Allen’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 20, 2025, at The Abbey Church, Litchfield Plantation.
