Alfred Lewis O’Brien, 92, of Myrtle Beach, SC, died Monday, January 4, 2021 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand.
Alfred was born in Salamanca, NY to the late Luke Edward and Eva Marie (Meek) O’Brien. After spending a long career working for the B & O/Chessie System Railroad, Alfred loved traveling with his wife Alberta, spending time laughing with friends and family, being outside sitting in the sun, fishing or walking his favorite furry friend, Trouble. He was a great storyteller, fabulous dancer and singer (favorite song – Blood on the Saddle.)
He has been a faithful member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Garden City, where he and his wife Alberta were once recognized as the couple married the longest – 71 years. He has also been a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, Alfred is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Alberta Mae (Hamrick) O’Brien on Nov. 6, 2020.
Alfred leaves behind a family who will miss him so much. There are 4 children: Daniel O’Brien (Denise) of Alliance, OH; Joseph O’Brien (Deborah) of Bellevue, OH; Kimberly Quiggle (Jay) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Connie Christy (Robert) of Aynor, SC. He has 8 grandsons: Shane O’Brien (Jody); Erik O’Brien (Catherine); Joey, Jason and Justin O’Brien; Michael Perdue (Leanna); Jeremiah and Denrey Christy (Lisa) and one granddaughter, Melanie Guillotte (Kevin.) He has 3 great-grandchildren: Storm Daniels, Caiden O’Brien and Cohen O’Brien.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a donation in honor of Alfred, a lover of dogs, to the Horry County Animal Shelter, Horry County Animal Care Center, 1923 Industrial Park Rd, Conway, SC 29526.
